In a candid conversation on "The Osbournes Podcast," Kelly Osbourne expressed her concerns about cancer given her family history. With a hint of self-deprecating humor, she admitted to hoping that her past substance abuse might have "embalmed" her body, protecting her from the deadly disease.
Kelly Osbourne has always been open about her struggles with substance abuse, and her recent comments on "The Osbournes Podcast" were no exception. While talking about her family's history of cancer, Kelly revealed her darkly humorous hope that her past drug and alcohol use had "embalmed" her body, making her immune to the disease.
"I'm hoping that I've embalmed myself, so I don't ever get cancer," Kelly said during the podcast episode, sparking laughter from her brother Jack.
She went on to explain her reasoning, stating that her mother, Sharon Osbourne, had battled colorectal cancer in the past. "Apple doesn't fall too far from the tree," she quipped.
Sharon Osbourne was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002, and after a double mastectomy due to the discovery of the breast cancer gene, she is now in remission.
Kelly's concerns stem from the fact that cancer is a common disease in her family, a fact she explicitly addressed on the podcast.
Jack Osbourne, Kelly's brother, interjected, "I don't think it works that way. But I'm no doctor."
Despite Kelly's attempt at humor, her statement highlights the uncertainty and fear that can accompany a family history of cancer.
Kelly has a well-documented history of addiction, having struggled with substance abuse for years. She has been open about her struggles, including her first introduction to opiates after a tonsillectomy surgery.
The opiates provided temporary relief from the negative thoughts that plagued her, but the relief came at a high price. Kelly quickly became addicted to Vicodin, then Percocet, and eventually heroin.
After four years of sobriety, Kelly suffered a relapse in 2021. She admitted to the relapse on her Instagram stories, stating, "I'm not proud of it. But I am back on track."
Kelly's admission of her relapse speaks to the challenges of addiction and the courage required to acknowledge and confront it.
In the same podcast episode, Kelly discussed her struggles with body image, revealing that a Hollywood executive had once told her she was "too fat" for TV and would "look better" if she lost weight.
Kelly's experiences with addiction and body image highlight the complex mental health challenges that many individuals face.
Her story is a reminder of the importance of seeking help and support for addiction and mental health issues. It also emphasizes the need to challenge societal beauty standards that promote unattainable and unhealthy body ideals.
