The actor, who finalized his divorce from Christine Baumgartner in February after 18 years of marriage, admitted that the experience was a difficult one.

"It was powerful. It hurt," he said. "But I go forward. I have no choice. My children are looking at me, so I can't wilt like a daisy. I have to go forward. I have to continue to be who I am and keep a special eye on who they are."

Costner and Baumgartner have three children together: Cayden, 17; Hayes, 15; and Grace, 14.

Despite the challenges of divorce, Costner remains optimistic about the future.

"I've learned a lot about myself through this process," he said. "I've learned that I'm more resilient than I thought I was. I've also learned that it's possible to love someone and still not be with them."

As for what he's looking for in a new partner, Costner says it's important to have shared values.

"I think it's important to have someone who shares your values," he said. "Someone who you can laugh with and have fun with. Someone who you can trust."

Costner also says that he's not interested in rushing into anything.

"I'm in no hurry," he said. "I'm enjoying my life right now. I'm focused on my children and my work. If the right person comes along, that would be great. But I'm not going to force anything."

In addition to his personal life, Costner also talked about his upcoming series, "Horizon," which premieres on Paramount+ on December 18.

The series follows the Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana. Costner plays patriarch John Dutton, a self-made man who is determined to protect his family and his land.

"It's a great story," said Costner. "It's a story about family, love, and loss. It's a story about the American West. I think it's a story that will resonate with a lot of people."

Costner has a long history of starring in Westerns, including "Dances with Wolves," "Wyatt Earp," and "Open Range."

"I love Westerns," he said. "I think they're great stories. They're stories about the human condition. They're stories about our history. I think they're important stories to tell."

"Horizon" is Costner's first television series since "Hatfields & McCoys" in 2012.

"I'm excited to be back on television," he said. "I think it's a great medium. It allows you to tell stories in a way that you can't in a movie. I think 'Horizon' is a great story to tell. I hope people enjoy it."
