Royal expert Christopher Andersen reveals how Prince Harry's bombshell memoir, "Spare," continues to strain his relationship with King Charles III and Prince William.

King Charles III's decision to bestow the prestigious Order of the Thistle on his wife, Queen Camilla, has sparked a fresh wave of controversy surrounding Prince Harry's recent attacks on her. Royal expert Christopher Andersen, author of "The King," has shed light on how Harry's tell-all memoir, "Spare," is still impacting his relationship with his father and brother.

According to Andersen, King Charles is deeply hurt by Harry's allegations against Camilla, whom he sees as a loving and supportive stepmother. Harry's public jabs at Camilla have reportedly left the king "unforgiving" and "determined to maintain a distance."

The Order of the Thistle, the highest order of chivalry in the United Kingdom, was awarded to Queen Camilla during Royal Week, an annual official visit by the monarchy. Prince William, who serves as the Duke of Rothesay while in Scotland, joined his father and stepmother at the Thistle Service at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh.

"The decision to honor Camilla with this prestigious award is a clear indication of King Charles' commitment to her role as Queen," said Andersen. "However, it also serves as a reminder of the deep rift that exists between Harry and the rest of the royal family."

The Order of the Thistle's ceremonial garb, which includes green velvet robes and white plumed hats, holds symbolic significance. The date of the order's founding is uncertain, but legend attributes it to 809 when King Achaius forged an alliance with Emperor Charlemagne.

As sovereign, only King Charles can bestow the honor, and this year, it was awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to Scottish society. Among the recipients were anthropology professor Dame Sue Black, lawyer Baroness Helena Kennedy, and Scotland's first black professor, Sir Geoff Palmer.

Following the ceremony, a grand reception was held at the Signet Library in Edinburgh Town Center, where guests from all walks of life celebrated the occasion. Royal Week was shortened this year due to Britain's general election, but King Charles and Queen Camilla also attended a celebration marking the 900th anniversary of the city of Edinburgh.

"Despite the ongoing tension within the royal family, the Order of the Thistle ceremony served as a reminder of the monarchy's deep roots in Scotland," said Andersen. "However, the absence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was a stark reminder of the divisions that continue to plague the family."

In addition to the Order of the Thistle ceremony, King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted 8,000 guests at a Garden Party at Holyroodhouse. The event showcased the positive impact of individuals from all walks of life within their communities.

Andersen concluded, "While the Order of the Thistle honor represents a celebration of Queen Camilla's role within the monarchy, it also highlights the challenges facing the royal family as they navigate the fallout from Prince Harry's revelations."
