LAURA INGRAHAM: NY vs. Trump was 'a bomb from day one'

Fox News host Laura Ingraham has slammed the Manhattan trial against former President Trump as a "big mistake" and dismissed the relevance of a recording of Trump discussing hush payments.

"The big moment in court today was supposed to be the playing of a taped conversation that Michael Cohen recorded between Trump and himself back in 2016," Ingraham said on "The Ingraham Angle." "On the tape, Cohen can be heard explaining to the then presidential candidate his plans to form an LLC through which he would finance the purchase of the rights to that woman's story."

However, Ingraham argued that the recording "proved nothing."

"None of the hype amounted to anything," she said. "None of it proved anything."

Ingraham also criticized the credibility of Michael Cohen, who testified against Trump.

"Now, only the radical, far-left legal mind would think that a convicted perjurer and a nutty porn star should be considered serious people, let alone help decide the next presidential election," she said.

Ingraham's comments echo the views of many conservative commentators who have dismissed the trial as a political witch hunt.

The trial, which began on October 24, is focused on allegations that Trump and his company, the Trump Organization, engaged in tax fraud and other financial crimes.

Cohen, who was Trump's former personal lawyer and fixer, pleaded guilty to nine criminal charges in 2018, including campaign finance violations related to hush money payments made to two women who alleged affairs with Trump.

The Manhattan District Attorney's office has accused Trump of knowing about and directing the hush money payments, which they allege were intended to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

Trump has denied the allegations and has called the trial a "witch hunt."

The trial is expected to last several weeks. If convicted, Trump could face significant fines and prison time.
