Missouri Senator Josh Hawley has lifted the lid on a critical lapse in security at a former President Trump rally following the July 13 assassination attempt, alleging that a law enforcement officer assigned to monitor the roof of a building from which the suspect fired abandoned their post due to extreme heat.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has caused a stir with bombshell revelations about security breaches during former President Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a would-be assassin opened fire. Hawley's alarming claims, based on whistleblower accounts, highlight serious lapses in Secret Service protection.

According to Hawley, a law enforcement officer tasked with guarding the roof of American Glass Research (AGR) Building 6, from where suspect Thomas Crooks fired multiple rounds, allegedly left their post due to excessive heat. The whistleblower shared that the security plan explicitly designated an officer to remain on the roof throughout the event but failed to do so.
The same whistleblower further disclosed that several law enforcement personnel were assigned to patrol the perimeter of the building to prevent access to the roof, but they too neglected their duties. The lawmakers who visited the site later demonstrated that the roof could be reached without using a ladder.

Hawley further emphasized that the Secret Service failed to ensure effective communication among security personnel. The whistleblower alleged that the officers were not operating on a common radio frequency, leading to a chaotic and disorganized response.
Hawley pointed to a deliberate effort by the Secret Service and other authorities to deflect responsibility for the security lapses. He accused both local and federal officials of playing the blame game instead of addressing the systemic failures.

The revelations have intensified calls for accountability within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), led by Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Hawley believes that Mayorkas should resign due to the agency's overwhelming challenges under his leadership.
Hawley suggested that DHS personnel had been stretched thin by reassignments to the southern border, leaving them unprepared and unequipped for the Trump rally security task.

In response to the mounting concerns, DHS Secretary Mayorkas has announced a bipartisan independent review of the assassination attempt within 45 days.
Hawley's office continues to gather information from whistleblowers to determine the full extent of the security failures that allowed Crooks to access the AGR building rooftop and endanger countless lives.

Hawley's revelations have ignited a demand for transparency and accountability in the Secret Service and DHS. Lawmakers and the public alike insist on a thorough investigation and the implementation of necessary safeguards to prevent future security breaches.
