Charles Moran, president of Log Cabin Republicans, predicts significant gains in gay support for the GOP, highlighting Donald Trump's appeal and the Democratic Party's failure to address LGBTQ+ concerns.
Charles Moran, president of Log Cabin Republicans, the nation's largest organization of LGBT Republicans, expressed optimism that the GOP will continue to gain ground among gay voters in the 2024 presidential election. Moran believes that former President Donald Trump's policies and rhetoric have resonated with the LGBTQ+ community, leading to a shift in voting patterns.
In 2020, Trump received 28% of the gay vote, up from 14% in 2016. Moran anticipates that number could reach 50% in 2024, challenging the stereotype that gay voters automatically support Democratic candidates.

"This is a year where we can absolutely drive those LGBT numbers up," Moran said. "It shatters the stereotype that if you're gay you have to be a Democrat."
According to Moran, the Democratic Party's focus on "virtue signaling" and "pandering" has alienated many LGBTQ+ voters. He cited the White House's pride month events and the flying of the progress flag as examples of inauthenticity.

"LGBT voters are mature enough and sophisticated enough to say, 'Are you creating a condition for me to be able to survive, to thrive, to raise my family, to run my business?' And every one of the answers that keeps coming back is 'no' from these Democrats," Moran said.
Moran praised Trump's record on gay rights, including his support for marriage equality and his policies that made it easier for gay people to serve in the military. He also highlighted the progress Trump made in foreign policy, particularly in countries where LGBTQ+ rights are under attack.

"Under the Biden administration, it's actually gotten worse because of that lack of strong foreign policy presence, and because of the lack of America being willing to stand up for our morals and values on an international stage. It's actually gotten worse," Moran said.
The Biden-Harris campaign has emphasized its commitment to LGBTQ+ equality, citing the Equality Act and other initiatives. However, Moran believes that these efforts are insufficient and that Trump's policies have a more tangible impact on the lives of gay and lesbian Americans.

Moran expressed confidence in the continued growth of the Log Cabin Republicans, which has over 10,000 members across the country. The group is actively working to broaden the appeal of the GOP among LGBTQ+ voters and believes that unity and inclusivity are key to success.
Former first lady Melania Trump is scheduled to join the Log Cabin Republicans for a fundraising event in July, underscoring her support for the group's mission. Moran described her as "an amazing ally" who promotes a message of unity and understanding.

"She really knows that inclusion does win and that unity is one of the most important things that we have going for us in this country," Moran said.
