Los Angeles Bus-Train Collision Injures 55

A University of Southern California shuttle bus and a Metro light rail train collided in Los Angeles, injuring at least 55 people.

Los Angeles, CA – A severe collision between a University of Southern California (USC) shuttle bus and a Metro light rail train in Los Angeles has left 55 people injured, authorities report.

The incident occurred around midday on Tuesday, April 30, along Exposition Boulevard near the USC campus and Natural History Museum. Genesis Hernandez, an eyewitness who witnessed the aftermath, stated, "The bus definitely got crunched on its front end. All of a sudden, I saw a bunch of ambulances going by."

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the accident involved a 40-passenger Starcraft bus, which was carrying only the driver and one passenger at the time. The driver and passenger sustained severe injuries and were among the most seriously hurt.

The Santa Monica-bound Metro train involved in the collision was carrying over 150 passengers. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.

Officials from LA Metro, which operates the light rail line, indicated that the bus had crossed into the path of the train. Dave Sotero, a spokesperson for LA Metro, noted that not all crossings along the line have gates.

LAFD personnel responded swiftly to the scene and assessed 55 individuals following the collision. Sixteen individuals were transported to area hospitals in stable condition, while 37 others were given treatment at the scene.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has assumed responsibility for investigating the incident.

"Metro offers its sympathy to those injured in the accident," Sotero remarked.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Representatives from both USC and LA Metro have expressed concern for the well-being of those affected.
