A Los Angeles County deputy narrowly escaped serious injury after a collision sent his cruiser flying into the air, with bystanders rushing to his aid.
A Los Angeles County deputy miraculously escaped with minor injuries after his patrol car was struck by another vehicle, sending the cruiser flipping through the air in a harrowing crash captured on dashcam.
The incident unfolded shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road and Bouquet Canyon Road in Santa Clarita, California. Video footage captures the chilling moment a gold Lexus slammed into the deputy's cruiser as he navigated the intersection.
The impact inflicted substantial force, causing the patrol car to spin uncontrollably and gain altitude before it collided with a silver SUV at a stoplight and came to a halt upright.
"It just happened so fast," Allen Rapisura, whose dashcam fortuitously recorded the perilous events, recounted to FOX11 Los Angeles. "It's like something you see in the movies."
Witness Audry Carias, stunned by the unfolding chaos, described the harrowing scene to KTLA: "The police car is coming towards me and another car just speeds up and hits it. [The patrol car] just flips and hits two cars in front of me. Thankfully, I didn't get hit."
Concerned bystanders swiftly rushed to the deputy's aid after the cataclysmic crash. Despite the severity of the incident, the deputy sustained only minor injuries and was released from the hospital shortly after.
"I think it speaks volumes that Santa Clarita, the community loves the cops here," LASD Sgt. Sherry Clark remarked to FOX11. "It looked horrific and we're all just so surprised and very happy that [the deputy] walked away basically unscathed."
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Santa Clarita Station, the deputy was responding to a report of a burglary in progress at the time of the collision. The driver of the SUV hit by the patrol car was also treated at a hospital and released, while the elderly driver of the gold Lexus escaped the crash unharmed.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and no charges have been filed at this time.
The extraordinary survival of the deputy amidst such a harrowing spectacle underscores the unwavering support and dedication of the Santa Clarita community towards its law enforcement officers.
