An internal investigation has revealed that a Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officer did not follow proper protocols when he arrested two-time PGA major winner Scottie Scheffler earlier this month.

The officer, Det. Bryan Gillis, failed to turn on his body camera during the incident, which occurred on May 17th. Gillis has been counseled by his supervisor and received "corrective action" as a result of his actions.

Surveillance footage released by the LMPD shows a series of events much different from what Gillis had reported in an arrest report. According to the report, Scheffler was driving a credentialed PGA courtesy car when an officer alleged that Scheffler "refused to comply and accelerated forward, dragging" the officer to the ground.

However, the video footage shows that a police officer ran up to Scheffler's vehicle as Scheffler tried to enter the golf course. The officer can be seen banging on Scheffler's window, after which Scheffler was arrested.

Gillis has a history of disciplinary issues with the LMPD. He has been suspended at least three times, most recently in 2013. In that incident, Gillis was allegedly doing "donuts" in a parking lot with his police car while an "intoxicated civilian" was inside the vehicle.

Gillis has also received "numerous commendations during his time with the LMPD," according to a report by WLKY in Louisville.

Scheffler has commended the LMPD for their handling of the incident, saying that they were "really kind" and that he is "grateful that we have such strong police."

Scheffler's arraignment date has been delayed to June 3rd. There are reports that charges against Scheffler may be dropped.

Scottie Scheffler is a professional golfer who has won two PGA major championships, the 2022 Masters Tournament and the 2023 PGA Championship. He is currently ranked first in the world by the Official World Golf Ranking.
