Lovitz Slams Democrats Over Israel, Antisemitism

Actor and comedian Jon Lovitz has sharply criticized Democrats for their stance on Israel and their handling of antisemitism in the U.S. Lovitz accused Democrats of neglecting Israel and turning a blind eye to anti-Jewish sentiments, particularly during the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Lovitz expressed his disappointment with the Democratic Party's shift away from supporting Israel, particularly during the May 2021 conflict with Hamas. He pointed to the fact that 70 Democrats voted against a bill condemning antisemitism, a move that he found unacceptable.
Lovitz also took aim at specific Democratic leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Bernie Sanders. He criticized Schumer for calling for elections in Israel during wartime, and Sanders for consistently opposing Israel's right to defend itself.
"He's a self-loathing Jew, and there's a lot of them," Lovitz said of Sanders. "They have to stop this war.' Why isn't he condemning Hamas for starting it?"
Defending former President Donald Trump, Lovitz argued that Trump's actions toward Israel have been positive, despite accusations of antisemitism.
"If you want to say, 'Well, he's antisemitic,' I go, well, I don't know, his daughter - he's crazy about Ivanka - converted to Judaism, married a Jewish guy, his grandchildren are Jewish," Lovitz said.
Lovitz further criticized Democrats for their alleged tolerance of antisemitism within their ranks, citing Rep. Ilhan Omar's comments suggesting that there are "pro-genocide" and "anti-genocide" Jews.
"To call what's happening in Palestine 'genocide' is false," Lovitz said. "Hamas wants to commit genocide against the Jews. There's no program to wipe out all the Palestinians."
Lovitz expressed his belief that the Democratic Party is no longer representative of his values.
"Jewish people for years, including myself, have been, you know, mostly liberal and Democrats. And so, what do you do when the party that you've been a part of all your life is against you?" Lovitz asked. "So then they go, 'No, they're not.' Really? Well, they just had a vote about it."
Lovitz's comments have sparked a debate about the intersection of politics, antisemitism, and Israel's security. They have also raised questions about the future of the Democratic Party and its relationship with Jewish voters.
