Despite their 44-21 win over Nicholls State, LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly expressed intense dissatisfaction with his team's performance, particularly singling out kicker Damian Ramos and his blocked field goal attempt.
The LSU Tigers finally secured their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Nicholls State 44-21. However, Tigers head coach Brian Kelly was far from satisfied with the victory, expressing his discontent with the team's performance.
One particular incident that drew Kelly's ire was kicker Damian Ramos' blocked 39-yard field goal attempt. The ESPN broadcast captured Kelly yelling at Ramos and even grabbing hold of his jersey. Kelly's frustration was evident, considering that the Tigers led the game 23-14 at halftime.

Ramos' missed attempt marked his only field goal attempt of the game, putting his field goal percentage at 2-of-3 through two games.
Despite the struggles on special teams, LSU's offense found success behind quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. Nussmeier threw six touchdown passes, tying him with Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow for the most in LSU history. Nussmeier's impressive performance included an 11-play, 72-yard drive that extended the Tigers' lead to 30-21.

Nussmeier's six touchdown passes were a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster performance by the Tigers. LSU surrendered 334 passing yards to Nicholls State and allowed the Colonels to score two touchdowns in the second half.
Following the game, Kelly expressed his disappointment with the team's effort: "I'm happy we won the football game, but certainly there are a lot of things that I'm looking at, the things we have to do better."

Kelly acknowledged the team's fatigue and the impact of a short week on their performance. "We were a team that was tired and didn't play at its very best," Kelly said. "It was a short week for us, and it showed. We just didn't have the same energy, the same snap, the same kind of physicality that we had against USC."
Despite their struggles, LSU managed to secure the victory, thanks in part to Nussmeier's strong performance and the Colonels' miscues. However, Kelly's post-game comments suggest that the Tigers have much work to do before they can become a legitimate contender in the SEC.
