LSU football coach Brian Kelly expressed his frustration during his media availability on Sunday night after the Tigers fell to USC 27-20. Kelly slammed his fist on the table as he explained his frustrations with the team's lack of discipline, which resulted in several personal fouls and an offense that struggled to convert in the red zone.

Las Vegas, NV - LSU football coach Brian Kelly was visibly frustrated during his postgame press conference on Sunday night after his team's 27-20 loss to USC. Kelly slammed his fist on the table as he expressed his anger and disappointment with the team's performance, particularly their lack of discipline.

"We had some guys play their butts off tonight, and we're sitting here again - we're sitting here again talking about the same things," Kelly exclaimed. "About not finishing when you have an opponent in a position to put them away, but what we're doing on the sideline is feeling like the game's over."

LSU held a four-point lead in the third quarter, but USC tied the game with two minutes remaining. Miller Moss connected with Kyron Hudson to put the Trojans in field goal range, but LSU's Jardin Gilbert was called for targeting, giving USC a first down at the LSU 13-yard line. Woody Marks scored the winning touchdown on the ensuing play.

Kelly was particularly incensed by the personal fouls that plagued his team throughout the game. "The thing that is most concerning for me are the personal fouls," Kelly said. "The penalties that are selfish. Both of them led to scores, and they're undisciplined penalties."

"We take pride in running a disciplined program, but we have clearly not done a good enough job there because it impacted the game," Kelly continued. "We had an opportunity to put this team away, and we get complacent, and we make more mistakes when we're ahead instead of having a better focus and a steely-eyed killer instinct and that's disappointing."

LSU's loss to USC marks the third consecutive season-opening loss under Kelly and the fifth straight overall. The Tigers also had their four-game winning streak going back to last season snapped.

"We're not doing a good enough job as a coach, and I've gotta coach them better because it's unacceptable for us not to have found a way to win this football game," Kelly said. "It's ridiculous."

Kelly's frustration is understandable given LSU's recent struggles. The Tigers have not won a bowl game since 2019, and they have not finished a season with a winning record since 2019. Kelly was brought in to turn the program around, but he has yet to achieve the desired results.

LSU will have a chance to rebound next Saturday when they host Southern University. The Tigers will need to improve their discipline and execution if they want to avoid another disappointing start to the season.
