Luke Wilson opened up about his experience working with horses on the set of "Horizon: An American Saga," sharing his admiration for their skills and the bond he formed with his mount, Charm.

Actor Luke Wilson recently shared his insights into his cowboy transformation for the "Horizon: An American Saga" franchise, highlighting the profound respect he gained for his horse, Charm.

"I love Charm, and if Charm's watching out there in Southeastern Utah, I miss you. I'll see you in August," Wilson joked during an interview with Fox News Digital.

As Matthew Van Weyden in Kevin Costner's passion project, Wilson spent considerable time on horseback, a venture that ignited his admiration for the incredible horsemanship of the wranglers involved.

"You go to work with these cowboys, and they try and kind of fit you with the horse you're going to get along with and be able to manage... they're incredible," he said.

Wilson's lifelong affinity for animals enhanced his connection with Charm during filming. "I've ridden a little growing up, but certainly never spent this much time on horseback," he explained.

Throughout the filming process, Wilson's respect for horses grew exponentially. "Charm could hit his mark from 200 yards. And I have trouble walking into this room and hitting a mark. So, I have a lot of respect and, yes, love for Charm," he said.

Wilson was among the first actors approached by Costner to join the "Horizon" project, a testament to the mutual respect between the two. "For me, it was one of the most important conversations in my life," he said of the phone call.

"To be lucky enough to get the chance to work in this business and then to get the chance to go to work — not just for him, but alongside him — was very special," Wilson added.

The "Horizon" franchise, which spans four films, delves into the history of the West before and after the American Civil War. Costner's storytelling extends beyond the Western genre, offering a deeper reflection on the current state of the nation.

"I think that Kevin is telling a story that shows that there was a lot of hope in how America was formed," said co-star Sam Worthington. "And therefore, if [there's] this hope in the formation of America, then maybe there's hope in the continuation of America."
