Manchester United showcased their resurgence under Erik ten Hag with a convincing 3-0 victory over Southampton in the EFL Cup semi-finals. Marcus Rashford, Matthijs de Ligt, and Rashford again found the net, securing United's place in the final.
Manchester United continued their impressive form under Erik ten Hag with a clinical 3-0 triumph over Southampton in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash at St. Mary's Stadium.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for United in the 25th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Southampton to calmly slot home. The visitors doubled their advantage just eight minutes later through Matthijs de Ligt, who headed in a pinpoint cross from Luke Shaw.

Southampton had an opportunity to pull one back just before halftime when they were awarded a penalty after a foul on Sekou Mara. However, David de Gea produced a brilliant save to deny Cameron Archer's spot-kick.
The second half saw United continue to control the game, with Rashford adding his second and United's third in the 55th minute. The English forward cut inside from the left and curled a magnificent shot into the top corner.
Southampton struggled to create any clear-cut chances throughout the match, as United's defense held firm. The Saints had only two shots on target compared to United's 13, highlighting the visitors' dominance.
Erik ten Hag will be delighted with his team's performance, as they extended their unbeaten streak to eight games in all competitions. The victory puts United in a strong position heading into the second leg at Old Trafford next week.
Southampton manager Nathan Jones will be concerned about his team's lack of attacking threat. The Saints have now failed to score in their last three games, leaving them with an uphill battle to overturn the deficit in the second leg.
For Manchester United, the victory keeps their hopes of winning a first trophy under ten Hag alive. The Dutchman has transformed the team since his arrival in the summer, and they will be confident of securing silverware this season.
The return leg of the EFL Cup semi-final will take place at Old Trafford on February 1st, with United looking to book their place in the final.
