Mandisa's Cause of Death Revealed: Natural Due to Class III Obesity

Mandisa, the beloved gospel singer and "American Idol" alumna, passed away on April 18 at the age of 47. Her father, John Hundley, confirmed that the cause of death was natural, specifically complications of class III obesity.

Mandisa's untimely passing sent shockwaves through the entertainment and music industries. Her father, John Hundley, spoke to Fox News Digital on Wednesday, revealing the circumstances surrounding her death.

An autopsy report obtained by People magazine disclosed that Mandisa succumbed to complications of class III obesity. The report indicated that she was found deceased in her home on April 18, and had last been known alive approximately three weeks earlier. Her manner of death is listed as natural.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, class III obesity is a severe chronic condition characterized by a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher. Obesity-related health conditions are commonly associated with this level of obesity.

Shortly after her passing, friends and family gathered at Brentwood Baptist Church in Nashville to celebrate Mandisa's life. During the ceremony, Hundley shared his thoughts on the events surrounding her death.

Hundley suggested that Mandisa may have fallen in her bedroom, citing evidence of rugs and clothing on the floor. He noted that her phone was located on the opposite side of the bed, suggesting she might have been unable to reach it for help.

Hundley vehemently denied speculation that Mandisa may have harmed herself. He stated, "Mandisa loved the Lord and the Lord loved Mandisa."

Over the years, Mandisa had candidly discussed her struggles with weight and the trauma of being raped at 16. She shared that excessive eating had become a coping mechanism for her.

Despite her personal challenges, Mandisa achieved great success in her music career. In 2007, she released her debut album, "True Beauty," which topped the Top Christian Albums charts and broke into the Billboard charts.

Mandisa's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her desire to inspire others. She penned an autobiography, "Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God's Joy," detailing her battles with depression.

Hundley expressed his determination to move forward in a manner that would honor Mandisa's memory. He acknowledged the mixed reactions to his remarks about her death but emphasized his belief that she is at peace.
