A Maryland man has been arrested and charged with murder after his mother's body was found in the bathtub of the home they shared.
Jeremy Gentry, 48, was charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment in connection with the death of Beatrice Kay Gentry, 68, according to Maryland State Police.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when police responded to a report of an unconscious woman at a home on Sand Castle Boulevard in Fruitland, Maryland. First responders entered the home and discovered the woman's body in the bathtub. EMS personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was called in to investigate and searched the home for evidence. Gentry was quickly identified as the suspect, and police obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody on Monday morning without incident.
Officials are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause and manner of Beatrice Gentry's death. Police have not yet released any information about a possible motive for the killing.
The incident has shocked and saddened the community of Fruitland. Neighbors described Beatrice Gentry as a kind and loving woman who was always willing to help others. They expressed disbelief that her own son could be responsible for her death.
"She was such a wonderful person," said one neighbor. "I can't imagine anyone wanting to hurt her."
Friends and family members gathered at Beatrice Gentry's home on Monday to mourn her loss and support her loved ones. They remembered her as a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Gentry is currently being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
The investigation into Beatrice Gentry's death is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit at 410-749-3101.
The arrest of Jeremy Gentry has brought some closure to the family and friends of Beatrice Gentry. However, many questions remain unanswered about the circumstances surrounding her death and the motive for such a heinous crime. As the investigation continues, justice will hopefully be served for Beatrice Gentry and her loved ones.
