However, Medvedev refused to be deterred, battling back to take the second set 6-4. The third set was a marathon affair, with both players trading blows, but it was Medvedev who once again emerged victorious in a tiebreaker, 7-6(4).

But it was Medvedev who found another gear, breaking Sinner twice and racing to a commanding 4-1 lead. The Russian maintained his composure, nailing 13 winners in the final set alone, and eventually closed out the match with a 6-3 triumph.

After the match, Medvedev expressed his admiration for Sinner's fighting spirit, acknowledging the challenges of playing against an opponent who was not 100% fit.

"It's very tough, because at one moment I could feel he doesn't move that well," said Medvedev. "It's always tricky because you want to play more points to make him suffer a little but more - in a good way - and at the same time you know that at point he's gonna say, 'OK, I can't run anymore so I'm gonna go full power.'"

Medvedev's victory sets up a mouthwatering semifinal clash with Alcaraz, who advanced after defeating Tommy Paul in straight sets. The two young stars will meet in a rematch of last year's Wimbledon semifinal, which Alcaraz won in three sets.

"It's always a special match to play against Carlos," said Medvedev after his victory over Sinner. "He's a great player, and he's the defending champion, so it's going to be a tough match."

Medvedev, who had lost his previous five matches against Sinner, will be looking to break that losing streak and reach his seventh career major final. If he can overcome Alcaraz, he will be a strong contender for the Wimbledon title.
