Lionel Messi and his teammate Luis Suarez will both miss Wednesday's MLS All-Star Game due to injuries. The Argentine star is nursing a right ankle injury, while Suarez has knee discomfort.
Inter Miami's star acquisition, Lionel Messi, will not grace the field at the MLS All-Star Game as he continues to recover from an ankle injury. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner sustained the injury during Argentina's Copa América triumph on July 14.
Messi's absence will be a significant blow to the MLS All-Star squad, which will face off against Liga MX's finest in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday. His Inter Miami teammate, Luis Suarez, will also miss the game due to knee discomfort.
The absences of Messi and Suarez were confirmed by the league on Monday. Both players were included in the list of unavailable players, casting doubt over their participation in Saturday's Leagues Cup opener against Mexican club Puebla.
"Their status for Saturday's Leagues Cup opening match at home against Mexican club Puebla will be assessed based on their daily recovery process," Inter Miami stated.
Messi's injury has kept him out of Miami's recent victories over Toronto FC and the Chicago Fire. The 37-year-old Argentine is a pivotal figure for his new club, and his absence has been felt on the pitch.
The MLS All-Star Game offers a unique opportunity for fans to witness the talents of the league's most exceptional players. However, injuries have taken a toll on the rosters of both MLS and Liga MX, with Messi and Suarez joining a growing list of absentees.
Despite the setbacks, there is still an array of elite talent set to participate in the All-Star Game. Miami teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba will represent the MLS squad, while Real Salt Lake's Cristian Arango will miss the event due to a four-game suspension for violating the league's anti-harassment policy.
The MLS All-Star Game provides a platform for the league to showcase its best players on a global stage. While injuries have dampened the excitement surrounding the event, there is no shortage of exceptional talent ready to entertain the fans in Columbus.
