Los Angeles Angels infielder Miguel Sano has suffered a unique setback in his rehab process, sustaining a burn from an unattended heating pad.
Miguel Sano, the Los Angeles Angels infielder who has been sidelined since April with left knee inflammation, has encountered an unexpected hurdle in his recovery. While on a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League, Sano suffered a burn after leaving a heating pad on his leg for an extended period.
Angels manager Ron Washington disclosed the unusual injury on Saturday, indicating that Sano had been experiencing discomfort from the burn. Although the injury is not considered severe, it has hindered his progress in regaining game fitness.
After initially experiencing knee inflammation, Sano was placed on the injured list on May 1, retroactive to April 28. He subsequently embarked on a rehab assignment, hoping to make a swift return to the Angels lineup.
However, the heating pad incident has delayed his comeback. Sano played in the Angels' lineup on Wednesday and Thursday, showcasing promising signs in his rehab outings, with a 1-for-2 performance in each game.
The prolonged absence of Sano and other key players has been a significant setback for the Angels, who have struggled throughout the 2024 season. Mike Trout, the team's star outfielder, sustained a torn meniscus after playing in only 29 games, further exacerbating the Angels' injury woes.
With both Sano and Trout sidelined, the Angels have plummeted to a 20-33 record, the second-worst in the American League. Their current trajectory projects a dismal 61-101 season, leaving fans disheartened and yearning for a turnaround.
Despite the adversity, the Angels remain hopeful that Sano will overcome his latest injury setback and contribute to the team's efforts. As the season progresses, the recovery of injured players will be crucial for the Angels' aspirations to salvage their campaign.
