The highly anticipated bout between boxing legend Mike Tyson and YouTube star-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul has been postponed due to Tyson experiencing health complications.
Mike Tyson's much-awaited return to the ring will have to wait after the boxing match against Jake Paul was put on hold due to Tyson's recent health issues.
The bout, originally scheduled for July 20th in Arlington, Texas, had stoked excitement among boxing enthusiasts. However, a recent health checkup revealed Tyson's need for "minimal to light training over the next few weeks" due to an ulcer flare-up.
Paul, while disappointed by the postponement, expressed his concern for Tyson's well-being. "I'm heartbroken, speechless, gutted," he said in a video posted to X. "We've been working so hard, and I feel bad for everyone involved."
Tyson, for his part, thanked his supporters and vowed to resume his full training schedule soon. "My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s," he said. "I will be back to my full training schedule soon."
The fight has attracted significant attention due to Tyson's legendary status and Paul's growing popularity in the boxing world. Tyson, known as "the baddest man on the planet" during his prime, last fought competitively in 2005. Paul, on the other hand, has a 9-1 record with six knockouts.
The delay has also raised questions about Tyson's long-term health and whether he will be able to withstand the rigors of professional boxing at 57 years old. Tyson has previously been diagnosed with sciatica and has spoken openly about his desire to maintain his health.
Despite his recent health setback, Tyson remains confident in his ability to defeat Paul. "Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end, you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good," he said.
The postponement of the fight has also raised questions about the future of the event. A new date is expected to be announced by June 7th, and the event is likely to still take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
While fans may be disappointed by the delay, they can take solace in knowing that Tyson's health is paramount and that the fight, when it does happen, is likely to be a spectacle worth waiting for.
