After three days in critical condition, 3-year-old Levi Wright has opened his eyes and lifted his head, leaving his family and friends hopeful for a recovery despite initial fears of severe brain damage.
In a miraculous turn of events, 3-year-old Levi Wright has opened his eyes and lifted his head after falling into the Utah River and being feared brain-dead. The incident occurred on Tuesday when Levi fell off a toy tractor into the river, leaving his family distraught.
Levi's mother, Kallie Wright, took to Facebook to share the extraordinary update on Thursday night. "LEVI WOKE UP! I am shook," she wrote. "We don't know how much, but the doctor said it was okay for me to get excited about that and I AM! My baby is so tough!"
Friend of the Wright family, Mindy Clark, has been providing updates on Levi's condition via social media. She explained that Levi opened his eyes and attempted to lift his head. "The nurse was in the room and they were telling him how much he loved excavators, and wouldn't you know it, there he was."
According to Clark, Levi's EEG monitor indicated brain activity when his sister spoke to him, expressing her hope for his recovery. Additionally, the monitor reacted when the family played him dinosaur sounds from his favorite book and when his mother kissed him.
Just days earlier, the family's outlook was grim, as Clark wrote that they believed "his spirit is no longer with us" due to the extended period his brain was without oxygen. However, Wednesday's tests provided a glimmer of hope.
"Our doctor was a little taken aback by her exam as they came in the room to end care. She felt strongly that we needed to give him more time," the family stated. "Now this doesn't mean that in 12 hours we won't be right back in the same position with him in my arms preparing for goodbye but it does mean we have time for a miracle.... Don't give up on my boy just yet."
The family now clings to the hope of a miraculous recovery for Levi. They are overwhelmed with gratitude for the love and prayers they have received since the incident.
Spencer Wright, Levi's father, is a renowned saddle bronc rider ranked No. 40 in the world. He and his three brothers made history in 2014 when they all qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, with Wright ultimately winning the championship.
The family's story has been captured in the book "The Last Cowboys" and an episode of "60 Minutes." In addition to their prayers for Levi's recovery, the family has requested privacy during this challenging time.
