The mother of "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" star Taylor Frankie Paul has spoken out against the "hypocritical" backlash her family has faced following the trailer's release, arguing that the Mormon church also has its share of sins.

Liann May, the mother of Taylor Frankie Paul, has taken to TikTok to address the criticism she has seen online directed towards her family in the wake of the trailer for the upcoming Hulu reality series "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives."

In a video posted earlier this week, May expressed her frustration over the comments she has encountered, calling them "contradicting" to Mormon beliefs.

"They stated that we, my family and I, should distance ourselves from being with the church and being Mormon because we're not Mormon enough," she said in the video.

May pointed out the irony in this statement, arguing that "a lot of sins are committed every single day" within the church and that "nobody is perfect."

"Before somebody should go out and judge somebody else or state that they shouldn't be Mormon, or they're not active enough, maybe they should look within themselves and see if they're doing the things that align with the church," she concluded.

May's comments come after the trailer for "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" sparked controversy among some viewers who felt it misrepresented the Mormon faith. The series follows a group of Mormon mom influencers who become embroiled in a swinging sex scandal that makes international headlines.

Taylor Frankie Paul became a viral sensation on TikTok in 2022 when she shared her experiences of her "soft swinging" lifestyle with now ex-husband Tate Paul. The couple's divorce and the revelation of their involvement in swinging made headlines and shocked many of Paul's followers.

In the trailer for "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives," Paul says that she created MomTok to challenge gender roles within the Mormon culture. However, the series also explores the tensions between the women's faith and their participation in swinging, which is considered a sin in the Mormon church.

Despite the controversy, May remains steadfast in her support for her family and believes that the show will ultimately be a positive force.

"I think this is a great opportunity for people to see that we're all human, and we all have our own struggles and challenges," she said. "And that just because we're Mormon doesn't mean we're perfect."

Followers on TikTok praised May for her bravery in speaking out.

"Let me tell you, a lot of things happen in the church and a lot of sins are committed every single day. Nobody is perfect," — Liann May, Taylor Frankie Paul's mom

"Preach! We don’t sit in church on Sunday because we’re perfect, we sit there because we are all broken!," one fan commented.

"This is the exact thing I wish more people would understand," another wrote. "And not to mention the show hasn’t even aired yet. So who knows!"

The remarks come as the trailer for the upcoming reality show continues to generate buzz. The premiere date for "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" has not yet been announced.
