MSNBC analyst Susan Del Percio admitted Wednesday that a recent poll left her flabbergasted, indicating that most independents perceive President Joe Biden as a more formidable threat to democracy than former President Donald Trump.

"I find it shocking, honestly," Del Percio said. "I can't make sense of that number. I wish I could."

The poll in question, conducted by NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist National, found that 53% of independent voters believe Biden's second term would harm democracy. In contrast, only 42% of independents expressed greater concern about Trump's potential impact on democratic institutions.

Del Percio expressed uncertainty over the findings, questioning whether they were an anomaly. "I wish I could have some really great insight into it, but I don't know if it's an outlier or not," she remarked.

She noted that other polls show more favorable trends for independents, leaving her perplexed by the discrepancy.

Biden has consistently portrayed Trump as a danger to democracy, while Trump has countered by accusing Biden of being the true threat. The two candidates are neck and neck in the presidential race, according to a recent USA Today/Suffolk University poll.

Del Percio also commented on the potential impact of Trump's ongoing trial in New York on voters. "This trial is not on TV," she said. "People feel like they know this story."

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, related to alleged payments made to silence Stormy Daniels about an alleged extramarital affair with Trump.

According to the same poll, 55% of Americans are not interested in the trial proceedings, while 45% follow the trial regularly.

In conclusion, Del Percio expressed bewilderment over the poll results, which suggest that a majority of independent voters perceive Biden as a greater threat to democracy than Trump. She urged caution in drawing conclusions, acknowledging the possibility that the findings may not reflect broader trends.
