New Mexico Senator Steven McCutcheon and border patrol officials discuss the alarming increase in illegal immigration under President Biden, highlighting the resulting surge in cartel activity and its devastating impact on the border region.
New Mexico, a state with a vast and porous border with Mexico, has become a "free zone" for cartels, according to Republican state Senator Steven McCutcheon. McCutcheon has joined forces with National Border Patrol Council Vice President Art Del Cueto to raise concerns about the unchecked flow of illegal immigrants and drugs under President Biden's administration.
"This is a free zone for the cartels," McCutcheon declared. "They are harvesting migrants. They are moving record amounts of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs."
Del Cueto echoed McCutcheon's sentiments, stating, "We're seeing record numbers of apprehensions, yet the administration is still releasing people into the country."
The lack of border control has created a breeding ground for cartels, which have established a stronghold in the state. They smuggle drugs into the United States and engage in human trafficking, terrorizing local communities.
"The cartels are running the show," said McCutcheon. "They are in control of the movement of people and drugs."
Chicago resident Cata Truss, who was kidnapped at gunpoint in Mexico and held captive for over two years, provided a firsthand account of the horrors perpetrated by cartels. Her captors subjected her to unspeakable violence, including beatings, threats, and extortion.
"They would beat me with their fists, feet, and a hammer," Truss recalled. "They sent photos and videos to my family, threatening to kill me if they didn't pay a large ransom."
Former Acting ICE Director Ron Vitiello emphasized the urgency of addressing the cartel problem, which has reached a critical point.
"The cartels are a threat not only to the United States but to our sovereignty," Vitiello said. "We need to take aggressive action to disrupt their operations and secure our border."
The crisis at the New Mexico border has spilled over into neighboring states, where law enforcement is struggling to combat the influx of drugs and illegal immigration.
"The cartels are spreading their operations across the country," said McCutcheon. "We need a comprehensive strategy to address this national security threat."
Local law enforcement officials in New Mexico are overwhelmed by the surge in cartel activity. They lack the resources and manpower to effectively patrol the border and disrupt cartel trafficking routes.
"We're outgunned and outnumbered," said one officer who requested anonymity. "The cartels have access to high-powered weapons and sophisticated equipment. We're fighting a losing battle."
As the cartel presence intensifies, residents of the border region are living in fear. They are subjected to violence, property damage, and intimidation from cartel members.
"We used to feel safe in our homes," said a local resident. "Now, we're afraid to go outside at night. The cartels have taken over our community."
The crisis at the New Mexico border is a testament to the failure of President Biden's border policies. His administration's lack of action has emboldened cartels and created a security vacuum that has had devastating consequences for the state and the nation.
