NFL experts and bookmakers discuss their top picks to win the NFC and AFC championships, as well as their favorite bets for first coach fired.
As the NFL season approaches, experts are speculating on which teams will emerge as frontrunners for the NFC championship. John Hill of the SuperBook gives a nod to the Detroit Lions, citing their balanced roster and aggressive coaching style under Dan Campbell. Despite a strong campaign last season, Hill leans toward the San Francisco 49ers missing the playoffs due to a potential Super Bowl hangover and rest disadvantage. Geoff Schwartz agrees, highlighting the Lions' stability and past successes.
John Murray of Westgate shares a similar sentiment, noting that the Lions are the most popular bet among bettors, with the Los Angeles Rams also attracting significant support. Murray expresses concern over the 49ers' current struggles, and agrees with Hill's assessment that San Francisco may struggle to repeat as NFC champions.

Entering the season, the Kansas City Chiefs remain a formidable force, aiming for their third consecutive Super Bowl victory. Murray reveals that the Chiefs have attracted heavy bets, forcing the books to lower their odds. Despite a volatile defense, Schwartz believes that their offense will return to its peak form, while the defense will maintain a solid level.
If bettors are looking beyond the Chiefs for AFC championship contenders, Hill has his sights set on the New York Jets. He cites their improved quarterback situation and stacked defense as reasons for his optimism. Murray leans toward the Cincinnati Bengals, who came close to winning the title in 2021 and 2022. Murray believes that the Bengals have the experience and talent to make another run at the AFC crown.
When it comes to predicting the first head coach to be fired, Nick Sirianni of the Philadelphia Eagles and Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills are among the favorites, according to the oddsmakers. Chris "The Bear" Fallica suggests that Sirianni's position is precarious due to previous roster changes and coordinator firings. McDermott's team has underperformed in recent seasons, and their challenging schedule could spell trouble early on.
Hill favors McDermott as the best value bet, citing his recent public criticism of his team. Murray, on the other hand, believes that Matt Eberflus of the Chicago Bears is in danger due to the team's struggles last season and the pressure to succeed with Justin Fields under center.
