With the 2023 NFL Draft rapidly approaching, the quarterback position is once again taking center stage. A pair of talented signal-callers, Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, have emerged as the frontrunners to be selected among the top picks. While Williams has been the consensus No. 1 quarterback throughout the pre-draft process, Daniels has seen his stock soar in recent weeks, making him a potential surprise pick.
Caleb Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Southern California, is widely expected to be the first overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound quarterback possesses an exceptional blend of athleticism, arm strength, and playmaking ability.
Williams' dynamic playstyle has drawn comparisons to some of the NFL's top quarterbacks, including Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. He is a dual-threat quarterback who can both run and pass at a high level. In his breakout season at USC, Williams threw for 4,537 yards, 42 touchdowns, and five interceptions while also rushing for 1,010 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Off the field, Williams has become a marketable star. He has signed endorsement deals with Nike and Panini America, and his social media following has grown exponentially. Williams' star power is expected to continue to rise in the NFL, where he has the potential to become one of the league's most recognizable faces.
While Caleb Williams has been the top quarterback prospect for most of the draft process, Jayden Daniels has emerged as a legitimate challenger in recent weeks. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound quarterback from Louisiana State University has impressed scouts with his arm talent, athleticism, and leadership skills.
Daniels is a prototypical pocket passer with a strong arm and good touch. He can make all the throws required in an NFL offense, and he has a quick release that allows him to get the ball out quickly. In his final season at LSU, Daniels threw for 3,420 yards, 27 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Daniels is also a mobile quarterback who can extend plays with his legs. He rushed for 272 yards and six touchdowns in 2022, showcasing his ability to create plays outside the pocket.
Daniels' stock has risen significantly in recent weeks, and he is now projected to be selected as high as No. 2 overall by the Washington Commanders. His combination of arm talent, athleticism, and leadership skills has made him a coveted prospect, and he has the potential to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL.
