Larry Allen, a Hall of Fame lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, has passed away at 52.
The Dallas Cowboys and the entire NFL community are in mourning following the tragic loss of legendary offensive lineman Larry Allen, who passed away at the age of 52 while on vacation in Mexico.
Allen, an 11-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro selection, was a cornerstone of the Cowboys' offensive line for over a decade. He played a crucial role in protecting quarterback Troy Aikman and paving the way for running back Emmitt Smith, who broke the all-time rushing record while playing behind Allen.
Smith was visibly emotional when he spoke about Allen's passing, saying, "I'm at a loss for words right now. Larry was one of the best offensive linemen I've ever played with. Such a good dude, great player, super person. ... It just breaks my heart."
Allen's versatility and dependability made him one of the most respected players in the league. He could play multiple positions on the offensive line and was known for his exceptional strength and athleticism.
In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Allen was also revered for his character off the field. He was a loving husband and father, and he always put his family first.
Aikman also paid tribute to Allen, saying, "Larry was a HOF offensive lineman that dominated opponents regardless of the position played. Off the field, he was a gentle giant that loved his family. Rest in Peace LA."
The Cowboys released a statement expressing their profound sadness and extending their condolences to Allen's family.
"Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL," the statement read. "His versatility and dependability were also signature parts of his career. Through that, he continued to serve as inspiration for many other players defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor and winner."
Allen's passing has sent shockwaves through the NFL community and beyond. He was widely regarded as one of the best interior linemen of all time, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations of players.
In the wake of this tragedy, Smith offered a poignant message, saying, "All I can say is: Live life to the fullest that you can. Love those that are closest to you, try to love those who are not near you as best as you can."
Allen's untimely death serves as a reminder to cherish the time we have with our loved ones and to live each day to the fullest. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched on and off the field.
