National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) legend John Force has taken a significant step in his recovery journey by moving out of intensive care, according to his team, John Force Racing. The Funny Car driver was transferred from neuro-intensive care to acute neuro care, indicating progress in his recovery from a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) suffered during a race.

Despite the positive news, Force continues to face challenges stemming from the TBI. The team acknowledged that he is still experiencing cognitive and behavioral symptoms, requiring time and patience for treatment. However, encouraging signs emerged as Force has been able to converse with medical staff, family members, and John Force Racing president Robert Hight, who recently visited him.

The 75-year-old grandfather of five has also made notable strides in regaining his equilibrium, allowing him to start walking with assistance from medical staff. The team expressed optimism that the next step in Force's recovery will involve moving to a facility specializing in treating traumatic brain injuries, although a time frame has yet to be determined.

The incident that led to Force's hospitalization occurred during the Virginia Nationals, when his Funny Car suffered an engine explosion. The vehicle veered across the centerline, colliding with the wall and then crossing back over the line to hit the guard wall again.
