Former United Nations Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley announced that she will vote for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, despite previously refusing to endorse him. However, Haley stressed that Trump would be wise to seek support from her former backers, who continue to hold sway in Republican primaries.
Former United Nations Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has endorsed former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. However, she urged Trump to reach out to the millions of people who voted for her and continue to support her.
Haley made the announcement during a question-and-answer session following her address at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. When asked about the strengths of Biden and Trump on national security issues, Haley responded, "Trump has not been perfect on these policies. I have made that clear many, many times. But Biden has been a catastrophe. So, I will be voting for Trump."
Haley emphasized the importance of Trump earning the votes of those who previously supported her and called on him to do so.
Prior to her campaign suspension, Haley had declined to endorse Trump, stating that it was up to him to earn the votes of those who did not support him. She has expressed hope that he will continue to speak out regarding the issues she has highlighted.
Responding to Haley's comments, the Biden campaign emphasized that many Republican voters continue to cast ballots against Trump in the primaries. They highlighted the campaign's commitment to earning the support of those who reject Trump's values and promote unity, alliance, and progress.
Haley's speech focused primarily on national security, criticizing both Biden and Republicans in Congress. She warned against abandoning allies, appeasing enemies, and ignoring global chaos. Haley emphasized the importance of preventing war and keeping Americans safe.
Haley's comments regarding Biden's temporary pause of a weapons shipment to Israel over concerns about Palestinian civilian casualties in Gaza drew criticism. She also expressed disappointment with Republicans in Congress who voted against military aid to Ukraine.
Haley emphasized the need for clarity on Ukraine and the obligation to defend NATO allies. She expressed concern that Russia's dictator may not stop at Kyiv and warned of the potential for American troops to engage in war if Russia attacks.
After concluding her presidential campaign, Haley dedicated time to catching up on sleep, running, and spending quality time with her family, particularly her husband, who recently returned from an overseas military deployment.
Haley plans to travel to Israel in the coming weeks and continues to advocate for a robust U.S. foreign policy that addresses global hot spots.
