New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick struck two pedestrians with her vehicle on Saturday night, injuring one of them, according to the police department.

The woman was transported to a hospital in stable condition, while the man did not report any injuries.
Kirkpatrick took breathalyzer and urinalysis tests. The breathalyzer test showed no signs of alcohol consumption, returning a result of 0.00. The urinalysis results will be returned within a few days, police said.

Kirkpatrick has been with the New Orleans Police Department for over 30 years. She was appointed superintendent in 2022, becoming the first woman to lead the department.
In a statement, Mayor LaToya Cantrell said she was "deeply concerned" about the incident and that she was "monitoring the situation closely."
"The safety of our residents is our top priority, and I have full confidence that the NOPD will conduct a thorough investigation," Cantrell said.
The incident comes at a time when the NOPD is facing increased scrutiny over its use of force. Last month, the department released body camera footage of an officer fatally shooting a man who was armed with a knife. The shooting sparked protests and calls for reform.
Kirkpatrick has said that she is committed to reducing crime and building trust between the NOPD and the community. She has implemented a number of reforms, including requiring officers to wear body cameras and creating a new unit to investigate officer-involved shootings.
However, the incident on Saturday night is likely to raise questions about Kirkpatrick's ability to lead the department and her commitment to transparency and accountability.
