The family of Sarah Cox, a Northeastern University student who suffered severe injuries in a window fall, is filing a lawsuit against her sorority and the property manager. They allege negligence and failure to ensure the safety of the gathering.
In March 2023, Sarah Cox, a junior at Northeastern University, fell out of a second-story apartment window during a sorority party, sustaining catastrophic injuries. Now, her family is seeking justice through a lawsuit filed in Suffolk County Superior Court.

The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of the property manager, Marcia Ramos and Ramos Properties, and the Phi Omega chapter of the Alpha Epsilon Phi (POAEP) sorority at Northeastern. Specifically, they claim that the property manager failed to maintain safe conditions by ensuring that the windows were secure and by not preventing overcrowding.
The plaintiffs further accuse the sorority of negligence and failure to warn, alleging that the chapter should have taken steps to prevent unsafe conditions caused by alcohol consumption and overcrowding. They also argue that the sorority should have provided adequate warnings to its members about the potential dangers.

The complaint states that approximately 30 people were present at the gathering, creating an overcrowded and hazardous environment. The low height of the windows, combined with the presence of alcohol, allegedly contributed to the incident.
Sarah Cox's family is seeking damages for her medical expenses, which have already exceeded $200,000, and for the ongoing care she will require throughout her life. They are also seeking damages for their own emotional distress.

The defendants named in the lawsuit have filed motions to dismiss, arguing that the complaint lacks sufficient evidence to support the allegations of negligence. They contend that the plaintiffs have not provided a clear explanation of how the fall occurred or identified specific actions that the defendants could have taken to prevent it.
The Cox family's attorney maintains that the defendants should have foreseen the potential for unsafe conditions and taken steps to address them. They argue that the fall was a direct result of the defendants' negligence.
A hearing on the case is scheduled for Wednesday in Suffolk County Superior Court. The outcome of the lawsuit will determine the extent of the defendants' liability for Sarah Cox's injuries and the compensation owed to her family.
