Oakland A's to Spend $350 Million in Public Funds for New Las Vegas Stadium

The Oakland Athletics (A's) plan to utilize $350 million of the $380 million in public money dedicated to constructing a new stadium in Las Vegas.

The Oakland Athletics (A's) do not intend to use all $380 million in public funds allocated for the construction of their new stadium in Las Vegas, according to Executive Sandy Dean. Dean informed the Las Vegas Stadium Authority that the club intends to invest $350 million of the funds, leaving $30 million unused. He also stated that the A's plan to secure $300 million in financing for the stadium, but no lenders have yet been identified.

"We've received considerable interest from several businesses eager to contribute to this project's component," Dean remarked.

The remaining $800 million needed to build the $1.5 billion stadium will be raised through private equity.

A 30-year non-relocation agreement was also on the agenda for Thursday's board meeting. A's officials have requested that up to seven games over two years, which would otherwise be played in Las Vegas, be potentially played internationally or at unique U.S. locations such as the Field of Dreams in Iowa. No more than four of these games would be held outside Las Vegas annually.

The A's anticipate opening their new 33,000-seat stadium in 2028.

The A's have outlined the financing plan to supplement the public funds approved by the Nevada Legislature in June and signed by Governor Joe Lombardo.

The club has enlisted Galatioto Sports Partners, based in New York, to assist in finding investors. This is the A's final season in Oakland. They are set to play the following three seasons in a Triple-A stadium in West Sacramento, California, with an option for a fourth year. The A's will share the facility with the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A affiliate, the River Cats.
