The actor had been living with severe disabilities since being struck by a car in 2019 while walking in Atlanta. The hit-and-run accident resulted in the amputation of both his legs above the knee.

Born in Enugu, Nigeria, Ndefo immigrated to the United States with his family at a young age. He studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City and began his professional career in the late 1990s.
