As the officer attempted to detain the assailant, police allege that a group of women intervened, allowing the man to flee the scene in a black BMW sedan. The suspect then struck the officer with the vehicle as he drove away.

The suspect accused in the initial attack was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon on G and Hilton streets. However, the stolen firearm has not yet been recovered.
