The Los Angeles Dodgers emerged victorious in Game 1 of the NLDS against the San Diego Padres, despite a valiant effort from Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani erased a 3-0 deficit with a three-run homer, but the Dodgers' offense proved too potent, securing a 5-3 win.
Los Angeles, California – In a captivating playoff debut, Shohei Ohtani showcased his extraordinary talent, but it was the Los Angeles Dodgers who ultimately seized Game 1 of the National League Division Series (NLDS) against the San Diego Padres on Saturday night.
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ohtani stepped into the batter's box at Dodger Stadium and launched a towering three-run home run into the left-field pavilion, electrifying the crowd and igniting a glimmer of hope for the home team.

However, the Dodgers' offense responded in kind, with Chris Taylor driving in a run in the sixth inning to reclaim the lead. In the seventh, Will Smith extended the advantage with a solo homer off reliever Pierce Johnson.
With the Dodgers now leading 5-3, the Padres sent Austin Nola to the mound in the eighth inning. Nola quickly dispatched the first two batters, but Justin Turner kept the inning alive with a double. With the potential tying run on deck, Nola induced a groundout from Max Muncy to quell the threat.
In the ninth inning, Dodgers closer Craig Kimbrel took the hill and secured the victory with a strikeout of Manny Machado. Kimbrel earned the save, while Tony Gonsolin was credited with the win despite allowing three runs on five hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Despite the heart-wrenching defeat, Ohtani's performance was nothing short of spectacular. The Japanese slugger finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a home run, and a stolen base.
On the mound, Padres starter Blake Snell held the Dodgers scoreless through the first four innings, but his command faltered in the fifth, leading to Ohtani's game-tying homer. Snell was charged with three runs on four hits and three walks in 4.2 innings.
Game 2 of the NLDS is scheduled for Sunday night at Dodger Stadium, with Yu Darvish taking the mound for the Padres against Julio Urías for the Dodgers. The Padres will aim to even the series, while the Dodgers seek to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
