Three decades after the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, Fox News examines the current whereabouts and activities of O.J. Simpson's renowned defense team and other prominent legal figures involved in the high-profile trial.
Thirty years ago, the infamous trial of O.J. Simpson, accused of murdering his ex-wife and her friend, captivated the nation and transformed the legal landscape. The "Dream Team" of high-profile defense attorneys, including Johnnie Cochran, Robert Kardashian, Robert Shapiro, Barry Scheck, F. Lee Bailey, Alan Dershowitz, and Marcia Clark, played pivotal roles in the outcome of the trial, which ultimately resulted in Simpson's acquittal. Here's a look at where the key legal figures are today:
Johnnie Cochran rose to fame as the lead attorney for Simpson. After his successful acquittal, Cochran expanded his law firm and became a frequent television commentator. He represented Sean "Diddy" Combs, Michael Jackson, and other high-profile clients before his untimely death from brain cancer in 2005.
Robert Kardashian, a close friend of Simpson, renewed his law license to assist in his defense. After the trial, Kardashian's fame was eclipsed by his ex-wife Kris and their children, the Kardashian-Jenner family, thanks to their reality TV show. He died of esophageal cancer in 2003.
Robert Shapiro remains an active attorney and has represented clients such as Lyle and Erik Menendez, Darryl Strawberry, and Vince Coleman. He founded several companies, including LegalZoom and ShoeDazzle, and is recognized among the leading lawyers in America.
Barry Scheck gained prominence by introducing DNA science to the Simpson trial. He co-founded the Innocence Project, which has exonerated over 375 wrongfully convicted individuals. Scheck currently serves as a professor and advocate for criminal justice reform.
F. Lee Bailey, known for his courtroom theatrics, represented Patricia Hearst and other infamous clients. His law license was revoked, and he died in 2021.
Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard Law professor, advised Simpson's defense team and has since been involved in controversial cases, including Jeffrey Epstein's plea deal and Harvey Weinstein's trial. He also served as a consultant for former President Trump's impeachment trial.
Marcia Clark, the lead prosecutor in the Simpson trial, resigned from law after the case and became a TV commentator and author. She has written several legal thrillers and continues to contribute to true crime articles.
Co-prosecutor Chris Darden resigned from the district attorney's office and joined academia after the trial. He has appeared as a legal commentator and briefly represented Eric Ronald Holder Jr., the man accused of murdering rapper Nipsey Hussle, before withdrawing.
Judge Lance Ito retired after presiding over Simpson's televised trial. He has declined to give interviews or comment on the case since then and is now 73 years old.
The Simpson trial not only had a profound impact on the lives of those directly involved but also changed the way criminal trials are conducted and televised. The legacy of the "Dream Team" and the key legal figures continues to shape the legal profession and public perception of high-profile cases.
