Oklahoma State football players will sport QR codes on their helmets this season, linking fans directly to the team's NIL fund and expanding their NIL earning potential.

Oklahoma State University's football program is pioneering a new approach to fundraising and player compensation with the introduction of QR codes on players' helmets. This innovative strategy aims to enhance the team's NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) earnings and provide fans with an easy way to contribute to the program.

The QR codes, approximately 1.5 inches in size, will feature each player's name and number. While not readily visible from the stands, the decals are expected to be noticeable in close-up shots during broadcasts and online photos. By scanning the QR code, fans can access a link that leads to the team's general fund, facilitating direct contributions to the NIL pool.

According to head coach Mike Gundy, the initiative represents a groundbreaking step in the evolution of college football support. "This gives everyday fans across the world a real impact when it comes to supporting the NIL efforts for Cowboy football," Gundy enthused. "I'm thrilled about this opportunity for our players."

The move comes amidst growing interest in NIL regulations, which allow college athletes to profit from their NIL rights. By providing fans with a convenient and accessible way to contribute, Oklahoma State aims to enhance its financial resources and remain competitive in the NIL landscape.

However, Gundy expressed frustration with the constant solicitation from agents seeking NIL deals for his players. "Tell your agent to quit calling us and asking for more money," he asserted. "It's non-negotiable now. Start again in December."

With the portal period closed and negotiations on hold, Gundy emphasized the importance of focusing on football rather than NIL pursuits. "I told the players there's no negotiating now," he said. "Portal's over. All negotiation's history. Now we're playing football. Just coaching and playing football."

Riding on the momentum of a successful 2022 season that culminated in a 10-4 record and a runner-up finish in the Big 12, Oklahoma State enters the upcoming campaign with optimism. Led by star running back Ollie Gordon II, the reigning Doak Walker Award winner, the Cowboys are ranked No. 17 in the AP Top 25.

"You can tell the team is really hungry," Gordon remarked. "We have a lot of returners back and we can't be complacent. I feel like we haven't shown any part of being complacent. We've all been practicing like we haven't been here before, and it's been a really great thing."

Oklahoma State will unveil its new QR code-emblazoned helmets on August 31 in the season opener against defending FCS champion South Dakota State. The innovative fundraising strategy is expected to generate significant interest and contribute to the program's ongoing success both on and off the field.
