In a poignant interview with "Good Morning America," actress Olivia Munn opened up about the profound impact her cancer diagnosis had on her and her family, particularly her 2-year-old son, Malcolm.

Munn, diagnosed with aggressive Luminal B cancer in 2022, faced the daunting task of privately battling the disease for a year before announcing her diagnosis in March. Upon receiving the life-altering news, her immediate thoughts turned to her son's well-being.

"Cancer is the — that's the word you don't want to hear," she told host Michael Strahan. "There's a lot of other things that you feel like you can beat, but you know cancer takes down a lot of people. And I just thought about my baby."

Determined to document her journey for her son, Munn explained, "Well because if I didn’t make it, I wanted my son when he got older to know that I fought to be here."

The "Newsroom" star's treatment journey included hormone suppression therapy, which left her severely debilitated and unable to function as a mother to Malcolm.

"The hormone suppression therapy is brutal and it gave me next level debilitating exhaustion," Munn said. "I was just in bed all day long, all day long, and my quality of life was so minimal and I wasn’t able to be there for my baby."

After witnessing the impact of her illness on Malcolm, Munn resolved to find alternative options. She opted for a hysterectomy and ovariectomy, which restored her energy and quality of life.

Despite her aggressive approach to treatment, Munn questioned whether she was willing to undergo further medication that could suppress hormone production. The actress admitted feeling fatigued from the relentless treatment regimen.

"I have been so aggressive," she said. "I did everything they told me to do. I did all the big surgeries. And now I'm saying, 'Do I have to do this extra drug?'"

Munn's battle with cancer has also shifted her priorities in life. "I'm a lot braver than I thought I was," she reflected. "And I learned that the most important thing to me in life is my family."

Through her journey, Munn emphasizes the importance of fighting for loved ones, seeking alternative treatment options, and embracing family as the ultimate source of strength. Her story serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges, highlighting the resilience and determination that can emerge in the face of adversity.
