The Padres are looking to rebound after dropping Game 1 of the NLDS to the Dodgers. San Diego has been chasing the Dodgers all season and will need to find a way to overcome Los Angeles' home-field advantage.
LOS ANGELES -- The Padres are right back where they've spent the past six months: Trying to reel in the Dodgers.
Hey, they've done it before.
Padres Look to Rebound After Narrow Game 1 Loss
San Diego rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win the season series against Los Angeles, and now they'll try to do it again in the NLDS. The Padres dropped Game 1 of the best-of-five series on Tuesday night, 5-3, but they're confident they can bounce back in Game 2 on Wednesday.
"We've been here before," said Padres manager Bob Melvin. "We know what we need to do. We just need to go out there and execute."
The Padres have been one of the hottest teams in baseball since the All-Star break, going 52-29. They've been led by a strong offense that has averaged 5.2 runs per game during that stretch.
But the Dodgers are a tough opponent, especially at home. Los Angeles is 55-26 at Dodger Stadium this season, and they've won 10 of their last 11 games at home against the Padres.
"They're a great team," Melvin said. "They're well-coached and they have a lot of talent. But we're confident in our team. We know we can beat them."
The Padres will need to get a strong start from Blake Snell in Game 2. Snell has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, going 8-4 with a 2.19 ERA.
The Padres will also need to find a way to generate some offense against Dodgers starter Julio Urías. Urías has been one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball this season, going 17-7 with a 2.16 ERA.
But the Padres are confident they can get the job done. They've already shown that they can beat the Dodgers this season, and they're hoping to do it again in the NLDS.
"We're not going to give up," Melvin said. "We're going to keep fighting until the end."
The Padres will have their work cut out for them in Game 2, but they're confident they can get the job done. They've already shown that they can beat the Dodgers this season, and they're hoping to do it again in the NLDS.
