Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, who is hosting a Trump roundtable, discusses why he believes Biden is in office, the importance of the Black vote, and what his congregation expects from Trump as they prepare to head to the ballot box.
Amid former President Trump's ongoing efforts to reach out to Black voters, Pastor Lorenzo Sewell of 180 Church in Detroit has expressed the community's expectations for Trump if he wins the presidency in November.
Speaking on "Fox & Friends First," Sewell emphasized the significance of Trump's visit to the Black community: "Sometimes we forget about the Black vote. Sometimes we forget about the power of what it means to vote for those who are in office and, in urban America, our voice matters."

Sewell noted that Trump's Platinum Plan, which includes substantial investment in Black businesses and churches, resonated with the community. He stated, "Those metrics matter to us. So we're going to ask him, we're going to hold him accountable to the Platinum Plan that he produced."
In contrast, Sewell criticized President Biden for neglecting the Black community: "I believe our current president has forgotten that the reason why he's in office is because the first Black president selected him as a vice president, and because he selected a Black vice president."

He added, "At the end of the day, in urban America, typically people are on the menu, and they're never at the table."
Sewell emphasized the importance of faith, regardless of political affiliation: "We can vote different. But we are all called to love the same Jesus Christ. He loved you regardless of your background or your political affiliation."

Recent polls have indicated a decline in support for President Biden among minority voters. Surveys released by the New York Times, Siena College, and the Philadelphia Inquirer show Trump leading in several key battleground states.
Notably, the polls suggest that Trump may win more than 20% of the Black vote, which would mark the highest level of support for a GOP presidential candidate in generations among Black voters.

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig has observed a shift in sentiment among Black residents who are concerned about the economy and illegal immigration: "People are sick and tired. I've had a lot of conversations in my barbershop. We talk about politics all the time. And these are African American men, and they say they're ready for change."
Sewell and other Black leaders will be closely monitoring Trump's performance if he wins the presidency, holding him accountable to his promises and ensuring that the Black community's concerns are addressed.
