Prince Harry was reportedly "hit hard" by Kate Middleton's cancer battle, but Prince William allegedly refused to let him "near" his wife, according to a royal expert.
Prince Harry was reportedly devastated by Kate Middleton's cancer battle, according to a royal expert.
The Duchess of Cambridge was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, during her pregnancies with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl claims that Harry was "hit hard" by Kate's condition, as he had seen firsthand the toll it took on his mother, Princess Diana, who suffered from postpartum depression after giving birth to William and Harry.
Nicholl told OK! magazine: "Harry was very protective of Kate during her pregnancies. He knew how much his mother had struggled with postpartum depression and he didn't want Kate to go through the same thing."
However, Nicholl alleges that Prince William was reluctant to let Harry be too involved in Kate's care.
"William was very protective of Kate and didn't want Harry to get too close," Nicholl said. "He felt that Harry was too emotional and would only make things worse."
This alleged tension between the brothers reportedly led to a rift between them, which has only widened in recent years following Harry's decision to step down as a senior royal.
In her book, "The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown," Nicholl writes: "Harry felt that William was shutting him out and not taking his concerns seriously. It was a difficult time for both of them."
Nicholl's claims come amid reports that Harry and William are still struggling to repair their relationship.
The brothers were briefly reunited at the unveiling of a statue of their mother in July 2021, but they have reportedly had little contact since then.
Sources close to the royal family have suggested that Harry and William may never fully reconcile, as their relationship has been irreparably damaged.
