Royal expert Hilary Fordwich discusses Princess of Wales Kate Middleton's recent cancer diagnosis and the impact it may have on the royal family, particularly on her close relationship with Prince Harry, who is currently visiting the UK.
Royal watcher Hilary Fordwich has weighed in on the impact of Princess of Wales Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis on the royal family, specifically on her close relationship with Prince Harry.
Harry arrived in London without his wife, Meghan Markle, to participate in an event for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Royal experts, however, believe that his visit is unlikely to lead to a reconciliation with his family, as the House of Windsor grapples with health concerns.
Christopher Andersen, author of "The King," claims that Harry is eager to reconnect with Kate, but there is resistance from Prince William, Kate's husband. Andersen attributes this to lingering bitterness and drama between the brothers and their wives.
"There was just too much drama between the brothers and their wives, and there is lingering bitterness on everyone's part," Andersen said. "So, the chances of even a meeting between Harry and the rest of the royal family, much less some sort of reconciliation, seem extremely slim."
A spokesperson for Harry confirmed that he will not be meeting with his father, King Charles III, during his trip due to the king's busy schedule. In March, the Princess of Wales revealed she was battling an unspecified type of cancer discovered after extensive surgery.
The King, too, has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, which was found during a procedure for an enlarged prostate gland. While Prince Harry has expressed his concern for both the King and his sister-in-law, experts believe it is unlikely he will be allowed to visit Kate as she recovers.
"Although it could have been the perfect opportunity for Prince Harry to visit the Princess of Wales ... this is highly unlikely as the Princess of Wales needs calm positive influences around her," British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard said.
"Prince William will not allow anything to get in the way of his wife’s healing, is deeply protective of his family and will not welcome a chaotic Prince Harry arriving at his doorstep," Chard added.
Some experts believe that Prince William is still holding onto the hurtful comments Harry made about his wife, Queen Camilla, in his memoir, "Spare." In the book, Harry described Camilla as a "villain" and revealed that both he and William had begged their father not to marry her.
Despite the family tensions, Harry remains focused on the Invictus Games, a Paralympic-style event designed to inspire military veterans overcoming battlefield injuries. The games were founded by Harry in 2014 when he was a patron of The Royal Foundation, a charitable organization shared by himself, Prince William, and Kate Middleton.
