Former Heisman winner Reggie Bush filed a lawsuit against the NCAA, his former school USC, and the Pac-12 conference, seeking compensation for the use of his name, image, and likeness during his college football career.
Reggie Bush, the former USC Trojans star running back, has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA, his school, and the Pac-12 conference, seeking to recoup the money made on his name, image, and likeness during his career with the football program from 2003-05. Bush's attorneys argue that the Heisman Trophy winner during the 2005 collegiate season should be paid "to address and rectify ongoing injustices stemming from the exploitation" of his name.
"This case is not just about seeking justice for Reggie Bush," said Evan Selik, one of Bush's attorneys. "It's about setting a precedent for the fair treatment of all college athletes. Our goal is to rectify this injustice and pave the way for a system where athletes are rightfully recognized, compensated, and treated fairly for their contributions."

Southern California Trojans were slapped with sanctions in 2010, partly due to Bush's dealings with two sports marketers, which violated NCAA rules at the time. However, the school recently restored his 2005 Heisman Trophy, acknowledging the changes in college sports since he left in 2005.
Despite the university's efforts to mend its relationship with Bush, his inclusion in the lawsuit has raised some eyebrows. "We appreciate that the new administration at USC is trying to pick up the pieces of the former administration's unjust and improper handling of Reggie Bush," said Levi McCarthern, Bush's attorney handling his separate lawsuit against the NCAA. "However, the delay in fixing this speaks volumes."

Bush's lawsuit comes amidst a wave of similar legal actions by former college athletes seeking compensation for their NIL rights. Former Michigan stars Braylon Edwards and Denard Robinson recently sued the NCAA and Big Ten Network for similar reasons.
Before Bush's successful NFL career over 11 seasons, he was a household name at USC, collecting 1,740 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns in his Heisman-winning season. Over his three seasons with the Trojans, Bush amassed 3,169 rushing yards and 38 total touchdowns.

Bush's lawsuit is a significant development in the ongoing debate over the fair treatment of college athletes. His Heisman Trophy win and subsequent NFL success have made him a symbol of the potential rewards and challenges facing student-athletes in the modern era.
As the NCAA navigates the complexities of NIL and player compensation, Bush's lawsuit serves as a reminder that the long-standing rules and regulations governing college sports are being tested. The outcome of his lawsuit could have far-reaching implications for the future of college athletics.
Reggie Bush's lawsuit against the NCAA, USC, and the Pac-12 highlights the ongoing struggle for fair compensation and recognition for college athletes. As NIL rights continue to reshape the landscape of college sports, Bush's case may set a precedent for the future treatment of athletes. The resolution of his lawsuit will be closely watched by players, coaches, and administrators alike, as it has the potential to redefine the relationship between college sports and its athletes.
