Remembered as a 'Bubbly' and 'Fierce' Soul: Lucy Morgan, 6, Dies in Tragic Badminton Accident

Jesse Morgan, the father of 6-year-old Lucy Morgan, remembers his daughter's vibrant personality and the heartbreaking accident that claimed her life, leaving an unerasable mark on their family.

In the sun-kissed meadows of Limerick, Maine, a tragedy unfolded that shattered the idyllic family vacation of Jesse and Bethany Morgan. Their beloved 6-year-old daughter, Lucy, lost her precious life in an unthinkable badminton accident, casting a dark shadow over their once-joyous retreat.

Jesse, a pastor at Green Pond Bible Chapel in Rockaway, New Jersey, vividly recalls the fateful day when their peaceful backyard playtime took an unimaginable turn. As the children engaged in a game of badminton, disaster struck.

"We were reading and resting in the backyard, and the children were playing badminton," Jesse recounts. "Suddenly, our son came to us, visibly shaken."

With hearts pounding in their chests, Jesse and Bethany rushed to the scene to find a horror unfolding. Lucy, their vibrant and carefree little princess, lay motionless, the victim of a freak accident.

"Due to a freak accident with a racquet that broke on a downward swing, a sharp piece had entered Lucy's skull while she was sitting on the sideline and caused catastrophic injury," Jesse explains in a series of heart-wrenching blog posts.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the family clung to hope, praying for a miracle as Lucy was airlifted to a nearby hospital. However, four days later, their worst fears were confirmed. Lucy's beautiful young life had been cut short.

"After significant thorough testing and even more repeated tests to be certain, brain death was declared at 1:32 a.m. on June 5, and her heart stopped beating around 4 a.m.," Jesse writes. "Lucy was with Jesus."

As the family grappled with the unimaginable pain of their loss, they found solace in the memory of Lucy's indomitable spirit. Her personality, a blend of bubbly exuberance and quiet reserve, had touched the lives of all who knew her.

"She was a tough kid and played soccer really hard," Jesse says. "She also had a gentle side, coming to us for cuddles and wanting to stay close."

Jesse and Bethany found comfort in the knowledge that Lucy had made a personal connection with God just four weeks before the accident. "She asked Bethany how to be with God and be saved," Jesse recalls. "Bethany explained it to her and offered to pray with her, but ‘Miss Independent’ wanted to do it herself. She went to her room and prayed to God to forgive her and that she believed in Jesus' death and resurrection."

Lucy's prayer journal, a treasure her parents now hold dear, reveals the depth of her faith and her love for her family. "God loves me," she wrote, her words filled with childlike innocence and unwavering belief.
