Susan Buckner, known for her unforgettable role as Patty Simcox in the iconic musical "Grease," passed away at the age of 72. Her family released a statement expressing their profound sadness and honoring her legacy as a talented performer and a beloved mother.
With her infectious smile and bubbly personality, Susan Buckner captivated audiences as the spirited cheerleader Patty Simcox in the 1978 hit movie "Grease." Her memorable line, "Do the splits, give a yell! Show a little spirit for Old Rydell! Way to go, red and white! Go Rydell, fight, fight, fight!" became an iconic moment in the film.
Buckner's performance alongside John Travolta and the late Olivia Newton-John launched her into stardom. Her character, Patty Simcox, embodied the exuberance and camaraderie of the Pink Ladies, a group of teenage girls navigating the social dynamics of Rydell High School.
Prior to her breakout role in "Grease," Buckner's impressive resume included appearances on popular television shows such as "The Mac Davis Show," "Sonny and Cher," and the "Telly Savalas Live Touring Show." She also showcased her dancing skills as a background performer.
Following the success of "Grease," Buckner continued to grace the small screen, starring in various television series. Notably, she had guest roles in "The Love Boat," "B.J and the Bear," "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries," and "When the Whistle Blows."
Buckner's versatility extended to the big screen. She co-starred in the horror film "Deadly Blessing" alongside Sharon Stone and appeared in "Police Academy 6: City Under Siege." These diverse roles demonstrated her range as an actress and her ability to connect with audiences in both comedic and dramatic settings.
As her career flourished, Buckner eventually made a conscious decision to step away from the spotlight to focus on her family. She devoted her time to raising her two children, Adam and Samantha. Despite retiring from acting, her love for the arts remained unwavering.
Beyond her accomplishments in entertainment, Susan Buckner left an enduring legacy of kindness and generosity. She dedicated her time to directing children's plays at Pinecrest Elementary School and teaching dance classes at Body and Soul Gym in Coral Gables.
Buckner's effervescent spirit and commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others will continue to inspire generations of performers and fans alike. Her family and friends cherish her memory as a loving mother, a talented artist, and a beacon of positivity.
At the time of her passing, Buckner was surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her son Adam Josephs, daughter Samantha Mansfield, grandchildren Oliver, Riley, Abigail, and Ruby, as well as her sister Linda, daughter-in-law Noel Josephs, son-in-law Adam Mansfield, and longtime partner Al.
Susan Buckner's legacy as Patty Simcox will forever be etched in the annals of cinematic history, but her true impact lies in the countless lives she touched with her talent, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
