Anti-Trump Republican Stuart Stevens clashed with CNN contributor Scott Jennings over whether Republicans should vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.
CNN commentator Scott Jennings and former Republican advisor Stuart Stevens engaged in a heated debate on Monday over the controversial topic of Republican support for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The discussion arose during a segment on CNN, where the panelists were debating the impact of the January 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol on Republican voters. Jennings argued that Republicans should not abandon their values and hand over the government to "absolute radical liberals" because of the events of that day.

However, Stevens interjected, stating that the Capitol riot was not an isolated incident. He emphasized that Trump voters were complicit in an attempt to overthrow the government, and that Republicans had a responsibility to reject such extremism.
Jennings countered that labeling Trump voters as unpatriotic would not be an effective strategy for Republicans. He pointed to a speech by former Georgia Lt. Gov. Duncan at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), where Duncan labeled Republicans who support Harris as patriots.

Jennings argued that this line of reasoning would alienate Republican voters who may have reservations about Trump but still prefer Republican governance. Stevens, however, maintained that these voters had made a choice to support a candidate who had tried to overthrow the government.
The debate also touched on the issue of Trump's ongoing campaign to regain the presidency. Jennings acknowledged that some Republican voters may have become lukewarm towards Trump, but he emphasized that they would be unlikely to be swayed by accusations of disloyalty.

He warned that labeling Republican voters as unpatriotic would only serve to create further division and animosity within the party. Stevens, on the other hand, argued that it was imperative to hold all voters accountable for their actions, regardless of their political affiliations.
The debate highlights the deep divisions within the Republican party as it grapples with the legacy of Trump and his impact on the future of American politics. With the November elections approaching, it remains to be seen how these divisions will play out and shape the outcome of the race.
