Speaker Mike Johnson believes Republicans have the edge in the 2024 election, regardless of the Democratic presidential candidate. He dismisses concerns about Biden's mental acuity and points to growing pressure from within the Democratic Party for him to withdraw.

Speaker Mike Johnson, expressing confidence in Republican electoral prospects, downplayed the significance of the Democratic presidential candidate, asserting that the election will hinge on policies rather than personalities.

"It doesn't matter who they run," Johnson declared in an interview with Fox News Digital. "Anybody that they would put in that place – this election is not about personalities, it's about policies and what it means to people."

Johnson's remarks come as Democratic pressure mounts on President Biden to reconsider his re-election bid, with some calling for him to step aside due to concerns about his mental and physical fitness. However, Johnson declined to comment on whether Biden should leave office, noting the turmoil within the Democratic Party.

"Look, it's for him to determine," Johnson said. "They're in real turmoil. On the other side, you hear in the last 24 hours, I'm told that [Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries] have all pretty well indicated that he – told him, I guess, or at least implied publicly that he should… not run for re-election."

Despite these internal Democratic divisions, Johnson expressed confidence in Trump's ability to prevail in the election. He attributed Trump's resurgence to a renewed sense of unity and support following the assassination attempt at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

"I have done events in 144 cities, in 31 states, they told me, in the last seven months, and there is something happening out there in the country right now," Johnson said. "And I think post the failed assassination attempt, there's even a greater energy out there."

Trump's base, he believes, has been galvanized by the attack, resulting in a stronger support base. "People feel it personally, and they know what President Trump has had to go through. He has a sympathy factor on top of all the energy that was already there. I think we're headed for a really strong November for the party."

While Vice President Kamala Harris is considered a potential successor to Biden, some Republicans are concerned that a younger candidate could pose a greater threat to Trump. Johnson, however, dismissed the significance of personality in this election.

"It doesn't matter," Johnson said. "I mean, if they put Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket, she's the co-owner of all the policies, it's not any better."

Despite Johnson's confidence, the Republican path to victory is not without challenges. The economy remains a weak spot for the Biden administration, and the upcoming midterm elections could provide an indication of the public's dissatisfaction.

Nevertheless, Johnson believes that the Republicans have the momentum to win the White House in November, regardless of the Democratic candidate. "I think we're going to do very well in November," he concluded.
