Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has suspended his presidential campaign and thrown his support behind former President Donald Trump, sparking criticism from "West Wing" star Bradley Whitford, who accused Kennedy's wife, Cheryl Hines, of staying silent amidst the controversy.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s decision to suspend his presidential campaign and endorse former President Donald Trump has ignited a wave of reactions, including sharp criticism from "West Wing" star Bradley Whitford.
Whitford, a vocal supporter of Democrats, slammed Kennedy's wife, actress Cheryl Hines, for not speaking out against her husband's decision. In a post on social media, Whitford tagged Hines and wrote, "Hey @CherylHines, way to stay silent while your lunatic husband throws his support behind the adjudicated rapist who brags about stripping women of their fundamental rights."

Whitford attached a video of Trump boasting about his Supreme Court nominees' role in overturning Roe v. Wade. The actor mocked Hines by adding, "Gutsy. Great example for the kids. Profile in courage."
Kennedy's announcement, made on Friday, marked a significant shift in the 2024 presidential race. The Independent candidate had previously positioned himself as a critic of both Trump and the Democratic Party. However, he now claims that Trump is the only candidate who can "save our country from the tyranny of the global elite."

Hines has not publicly commented on her husband's decision, but she did express her gratitude to his supporters in a social media post. She called for unity despite the controversy surrounding her husband's announcement.
"I deeply respect the decision Bobby made to run on the principle of unity. Over the last year and a half, I have met some extraordinary people from all parties — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents," Hines wrote. "It's been my experience that the vast majority of all parties are truly good people who want the best for our country and for each other."

Kennedy's siblings have condemned his endorsement of Trump, accusing him of betraying their family values. In a scathing statement, they said, "We stand in solidarity with the millions of Americans who are committed to fighting for the values that our father, Robert F. Kennedy, dedicated his life to."
Kennedy addressed the backlash from his family on Fox News on Sunday, saying, "My family is troubled by my decisions. I love my family. I feel like we were raised in a milieu where we were encouraged to debate each other and debate ferociously and passionately about things and still love each other."
"They're free to take their positions on these issues," he added. "I think we all need to be able to disagree with each other and still love each other."
The controversy surrounding RFK Jr.'s endorsement of Trump has reignited tensions within the Kennedy family and highlighted the deep divisions in American politics.
