Bo Nix, the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is set to make history as the first rookie quarterback to start for the Denver Broncos since legendary Hall of Famer John Elway.

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix is poised to make his mark on the franchise's rich history, becoming the first rookie since John Elway to start at quarterback in Week 1 of the regular season.

Nix, the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has impressed head coach Sean Payton and the Broncos throughout training camp and two preseason games. He will lead the team's offense in their season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

"Bo has earned this opportunity," said Payton. "He has shown great maturity, leadership, and a strong understanding of our offense. We believe he is ready to take the next step and lead our team."

Nix has been in a quarterback competition with Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson, but his consistent performances have set him apart.

In his two preseason games, Nix has completed 23 of 30 passes for 205 yards, 2 touchdowns, and a quarterback rating of 121.5.

His teammates have praised his poise and confidence, noting his ability to lead the offense effectively despite being a first-year player.

"He's just growing his confidence and growing his chemistry with the offensive guys," said cornerback Pat Surtain. "When you see a younger guy like that take control of the offense, you know the expectation is going to keep going further and further."

Nix's journey to becoming the starting quarterback has been a testament to his hard work and determination. After a bumpy start to his college career at Oregon, he exploded last season, throwing for a career-high 4,508 yards and 45 touchdowns.

He credits his success to staying healthy and putting in the necessary work.

"The ability was always there, and I was in a great situation," Nix said before the NFL Draft. "Finally, it happened this past year, but it didn't necessarily surprise me. I was excited that all the work and effort paid off."

Nix has carried that momentum into the NFL, impressing the Broncos with his ability to process information quickly and make smart decisions.

His strong arm and mobility have also been a factor in his successful start to his professional career.

"We're going to get an extreme competitor, somebody that does anything he can physically and mentally to win the game," Nix said about what he brings to the Broncos. "They're going to get a talented quarterback that can go out there and process information at a high level and is going to be a great teammate."

With the Broncos rebuilding their franchise around a young and talented roster, Nix will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in their resurgence.

Whether he lives up to the legacy of John Elway remains to be seen, but Nix has already shown that he has the talent and potential to be a special player for the Denver Broncos.
