Amid strained relations between Prince William and Harry, the latter declined an invitation to the Duke of Westminster's wedding to avoid an "awkward" encounter with his brother. Author Hilary Fordwich revealed that Prince William's role as an usher influenced Harry's decision, as his presence could have overshadowed the newlyweds' special day.

Royal expert Hilary Fordwich, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, has shed light on the ongoing rift between Prince William and Prince Harry, revealing the circumstances surrounding Harry's decision to decline an invitation to the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster.

The strained relationship between the brothers, which stems from Harry and Meghan Markle's royal exit in 2020, has prevented them from attending events together. Harry's absence at the royal wedding was a result of the potential awkwardness it could have caused, given that William was serving as an usher.

"He had a phone call with Prince Harry, who had been invited, but they decided it would be too awkward for him to attend," Fordwich explained. "Prince William is an usher, and it would have been more than awkward for him to have ushered Harry to his seat."

Fordwich's account suggests that both brothers were keen on avoiding any attention that could have taken away from the newlyweds on their special day. "Even if Harry showed up and slunk into the back row, there would be enough press coverage and general hysteria over the two brothers being in the same room to overshadow the wedding entirely," royal expert Christopher Andersen stated.

Harry's absence was also influenced by his desire to avoid creating a media circus and potentially overshadowing the bride and groom. "Harry's presence would have turned the whole affair into a media circus, and he didn't want to do that to his friend," Andersen added. "If he learned that Harry had accepted the invitation, it's likely that William would have backed out. Harry knows this."

The ongoing rift between the brothers has been further underscored by their behavior at the King's coronation in May. Harry and William, who sat separately, were not seen speaking or acknowledging each other throughout the ceremony. Despite Harry's brief trip to the U.K. to visit Charles after his cancer diagnosis, there was reportedly no reunion with William.

Harry's appearance in London last month for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games did not spark any reconciliation with his family. Royal watchers believe that the bitterness and drama between the brothers and their wives have made a reconciliation seem highly unlikely.

In a new book titled "My Mother and I," Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, has detailed King Charles's upbringing and his relationship with Queen Elizabeth II. The book allegedly reveals Charles's regret over certain aspects of Harry's upbringing, although the specific details remain unknown.

The rift between the brothers has been a source of significant concern for the royal family, and it remains to be seen whether the situation will improve in the future. For now, the strained relationship continues to cast a shadow over royal events and public appearances.
